The only way to repair a broken type 1 magsafe is to cut it off and splice on a new one. I found an unwanted 65W mag-safe II. Because the coax cable is some kind of stainless steel mesh, it is impossible to solder. The only way to securely attach it is to do a LONG twist of the conductors and fasten the join with heat shrink tubing. I used several layers of tubing and cinched it with zip ties. Ugly but strong join!
