File:Round garden room with tyre base.jpg
This round garden room was built by students in 2005 at Assington Mill, Suffolk, England [www.assingtonmill.com] with Barbara Jones [www.strawworks.co.uk] and Bee Rowan [www.strawbuild.org]. The straw bale room is sitting on a rammed earth car tyre foundation and is plastered inside with clay and outside with lime. Pole rafters from the local woods support the straw thatch roof. It's got a stylish roof cap... that's pattern No. 232 [www.naturalhomes.org/fbr.pattern]. A word of WARNING: Unprotected from the sun's UV rays tyres will deteriorate. If you are going to use tyres as a foundation then protect them from the sun with something like loose stones.
