In general a query is a request for information retrieval from a data storage mechanism. In the context of a wiki or other content management system, a query usually refers to some kind of search criteria that result in a list of articles that have content and/or title matching the criteria.

In wiki organisation the idea of a query has more specific meaning relating to templates and forms, for more detail on this aspect of queries, see templates, forms and queries.
