  • This document is not meant to evolve any further it is merely intended as reading for anyone interested in the origins of this implementation of the Project.
  • It is one of the first non-technical "big picture" descriptions compiled by people working on the project, written in March 2002.
  • Document has been superseded by others through the years and currently the About the Project document fills it's role.

Master doc

A conglomeration of starting points put together by Milan Holzapfel

The Transformation Platform as a tool for networking and communication

Summary:

The purpose of this document is to provide a starting point for the projects on the Transformation Platform website and will help gather ideas and feedback regarding Transformation. It will help us organise our efforts to bring about change and get started immediately. This website could be the seed for the transformation effort, bringing together many people to work on it in different countries. Once the Dao software is operational and the need for centralised coordination eliminated, the websites projects can move to the new system and it may cease to exist or change it’s focus may shift. For now, it is a starting point. Large portions of this document may appear on the website, as well as some

Introduction:

None of the concepts or labels attached to new ways to do things and our path toward cooperation should be seen as precious by anyone who reads or contributes to this text. They are only labels that point to things. If the label is altered or dropped because it is found unhelpful then whatever it was pointing to is still there.

-change. It may change or link into some other network or disappear but hopefully it will at the very least spark off some other, more successful effort.

After reading about a topic you can then start or view a project page. A project page contains more detailed information and can be used to coordinate people working on this particular aspect of transformation. As we learn to apply the principles taught by the I Ching and other sources of wisdom, these groups will be categorised in a natural way, their connections showing up as branching pathways for instance. Until we learn how to do that we will just have to make do with A simple and relatively arbitrary, if evolving, folder structure.

The Intro to the Platform V1.0 could be simple flash animation where the screen turns black in fast sweep and green letters flash over the screen (cool font) accompanied by gentle “star-

Set up offices

Currently some of us are looking for some space to rent around downtown Auckland to set up an office which can be used as an initial meeting point, internet access point and initial physical

Creating The Autonomous Community

Working out technical and financial requirements Working out a possible (economic, organisational) emphasis for initial communities Working out the skills and needs of the specific communities initially and long-term From these should flow the location, dimensions and type of community

Using niche markets to create income for Transformation movement as well as establishing new, effective ways to use the land and moving toward using renewable resources e.g. organic agriculture, hemp crops, permaculture. Research and develop options that use the organisational and resource sharing abilities of the Transformists to maximum advantage. Here are some initial ideas which need fleshing out, business plans, etc.

Seaweed harvest for supplements or fertiliser

Hemp production and developing new applications and ways to process it

Offering web-based IT services

Setting up a retreat or healing centre

Organic Farming

Setting up an alternative gardening research and training centre

Establishing a training centre where skills can be shared

Researching consensus-building tools

Coordinating community Formations according to needs

Legal requirements land use/collective ownership etc. working out templates

e.g. a community could be a trust the task of which is to supply a defined lifestyle. All purchases that support that, are expenses so it could operate at zero profit to avoid paying taxes.

Another idea might be to develop tools for applying for government grants, etc.

Freedom Technology

Energy Supply

Transport

Low-cost, autonomous housing

Fabrication Centres

Renewable resources

Goals and Feedbacks

Marine Economy

Evolving concepts of Transformation, spreading them through the net, media, movies, books.

Outreach and connection of people already working on separate aspects of Transformation

Review of successful Intentional Communities

Feedback

Until the website is up and running with shared access by users to the various documents and a system for managing that is in place, I would like to suggest a feedback system on a page that can be cut and pasted into an email or printed out and brought to meetings. Feedback will constitute a very important aspect of the network and therefore it should be experimented with as soon as possible. This document will have an early, crude example of a feedback mechanism, which will slowly evolve alongside it.

Your suggestions for improving the format and structure of the documentation system, the beginnings of which you are reading now, would be most appreciated, as well as new topics or useful features that would improve the use of the system.

What do you think about the document?

For instance: Is the structure and purpose of the document clear? Are there topics that could be added/dropped or have their connections and connectivity shown up better? What are some good ideas for integrating other information such as web page collections in it? What would some good features for the feedback section be? What format would you like the document to be in (i.e. file type)?
