One Laptop per Child
The OLPC is a low-spec, basic laptop, intended for kids in developing nations.
Brainchild of Nick Negroponte, incorporating a wireless mesh-network & display that will be legible in direct sunlight.
The original idea was to manufacture these devices for US$100, or less, a pop, and sell them on a buy-one-gift-one basis.
Currently in v.2, it has spun off a few other projects, including inspiring MeeGo project (a "blend" of the MaeMo & Moblin OS')
