USB host controller stack for the ATmega168 AVR

Is this possible with the ATmega168 as supplied on the Arduino NG? There does not seem to be a bus connection between the micro and the usb chip, only a serial TX/RX connection. The FT232R will definately do USB protocol, the question is how to leverage this.
