Leverage and extend the MediaWiki project with any extension customizations required. This allows us (and end users) to easily tap in to the Wikipedia resource, and is the interface that most people are familiar with. The bid should emphasize utlizing an active highly successful open source project, platform independence, and an installation setup (wikia farm approach) which allows new versions and extensions to be patched in seemlessly.

- MediaWiki is under active development
- Can easily tap into Wikimedia projects and utilize their evolving content
- Highly scalable (in terms of load balancing)
- Easy backup and restore of MySQL database backend

- Scientific lab books - The full audit trail makes this possible. Ajax functionality would enhance its use.

- Seminar delivery - Similar to Auckland universities LaTeX seminar class allowing streaming video from Youtube etc, using MW:Extension:CSS (CSS example), and ideas from MW:Extension:Pdf Export
