Talk:Profile

From Organic Design wiki

From an OpenBC comment to Sven:

I've been getting into this a fair bit, as it provides a lot of the functionality Aran and I have been talking about in the context of Peer development. It's like that "Plaxo" service where you get everyone to update their own contact info and it hooks into MS Outlook so you don't have to worry about maintaining contact info. Except it goes into the networked-online-business-card aspect a fair bit.

It's weak on the definition of terms though. Like how you can enter under haves "...a great appetite!" or whatever, rather than being able to choose categories of products or services, which could then be accurately mapped to their respective "needs".

And the way it does documents doesn't seem to hot, although I must admit to not having played around with it very much yet.

So I was thinking, what if we combined it with the doc-management capabilities of mediawiki and then eventually use a flash interface for it? Combine that with sorting out the categorisation (we could just look at how trademe has done it) and we've got ourselves a winner.

Wow, looks like someone has been busy on this! I won't get much done before the weekend from the looks of it :-( Anyway, I don't know whether it is the right time for it yet, but we might as well start thinking about the whole avatar/user agent stuff. Here is some work Aran did on Avatars when we wrote the "books that won't be mentioned":

It was discussed above that notions can be seen as roles and as moments containing various role requirements. This can be taken completely literally in this project, because every notion can grow just like an organism, they can learn, evolve, think and even dream.

The Tree of Knowledge is effectively a huge organism full of Beings working on their processes in all its systems. Notions in the network define all the traits of their instances including an identity. The specifics of Instances are random, i.e. dependent on the energy of the time when they are instantiated. The specifics of an Instance will also depend on their current state.

The physical form and its dynamics and the personality of Notions’ identities are defined in the Avatar Notion. Avatars break down the differences between Humans and computers a lot by allowing them to interact and communicate in terms of concepts understandable by both.

Many roles can be equally filled by people or by processes. The only differences come down to areas of expertise and skill. There is no expertise required to use the Tree of Knowledge, so people can learn to be productive on it far more quickly than current applications and operating systems.

All “programming? can be done by expressing everything in concepts to Avatars, and by creating and maintaining relationships between them all. Creation and navigation of concepts will become quicker and quicker as the Interface evolves from feedback.

Wrap your head around that in the context of "Profile" :-) Now my first step will be to bring that definition up-to-date since it is a few years old. Also I want to know what Aran thinks about working on this without the Peer being functional yet. Thanks for your work, and I'll be doing more on this soon.--Milan 10:28, 29 Jun 2006 (NZST)
