Things to avoid

One part of healthy living relates to avoiding certain activities and substances. We will be discussing those in this section.

Meat and dairy products

Processed foods & sugar

Microwave ovens

There are three main categories of adverse health effects resulting from the use of microwave ovens:

  • Category I, Cancer-Causing Effects
  • Category II, Nutritive Destruction of Foods
  • Category III, Biological Effects of Exposure

For detailed background information, please see: Microwave ovens

Fluoride

There's an excellent article from Global Research on fluoridation here and another good page covering many issues and links here.

In 2003 the UK government passed a new law, which exempts them and water companies from liability against claimants who have been damaged or killed from fluoridated water:

Aluminium

The following additives contain aluminium compounds: E173, E520, E521, E523 E541, E545, E554, E555 E556, E559, E1452 and E598. Antacids quite often contain aluminum trisilicate as does buffered aspirin. Foods containing aluminium based additives include dry cake mixes, pastries and croissants made from frozen dough, processed cheeses, some donuts and waffles, check muffins for E541 (sodium aluminum phosphate), and food coloring. The list of substances containing aluminium salts is quite depressing. The caking agents added to salt can be aluminum compounds. The common ones are E544, E545 and E546.

There are several herbs that are useful in the elimination of heavy metals. Tenna Merchent wrote her odyssey of detoxing herself and her son from aluminum poisoning in her highly readable book, "He’s not Autistic But...How We Pulled Our Son From the Mouth of the Abyss." Merchant claims that one should use pure vegetable glycerine to eliminate mercury; bladderwrack, a seaweed, for aluminum; potassium for excess copper; and horsetail (shavegrass) for lead.

Others have found that cilantro and chlorella are helpful for mercury elimination with many advocates making a delicious pesto using cilantro that includes lots of raw garlic.

Again, bio-available minerals are important and many herbs are excellent sources of these important nutrients. Dr. John R. Christopher has a formula that has been specifically designed for eliminating these heavy metals from the body. His "Heavy Mineral Herbal" formula contains bugleweed, cilantro, yellowdock and lobelia.

Another herb that is gaining popularity is turmeric, which contains curcumin. Using this "spice" in therapeutic doses has shown promise in treating Alzheimer’s patients, who are known to be loaded with both mercury and aluminum.

Ways to promote health

Herbal medicine

  • Canto verde: website with a huge list of plants, their properties and the best way to palnt and manipulate them.
  • Catálogo de ervas: a fast help; not very accurate, though.

Orthomolecular medicine

Orthomolecular medicine describes the practice of preventing and treating disease by providing the body with optimal amounts of substances which are natural to the body.

Sun

from reader comment on original photo Chrishawn Manley: "Also, if you know you are going out in sun for long periods, take 6 calcium lactate pills... You will NOT burn. Burning in from too much vitamin D and not enough calcium to absorb it. The two go hand in hand! It works... We use it in our family. Standard Process Inc. is the brand we use. We get it from our chiropractor who practices in holistic approach to health. You can check out standard processes website too."

Cancer prevention

This is an excellent free documentary about Essiac, the Hoxey clinics and their attack by big pharma.

This documentary is like a "part two" of the one above which follows a more recent cure by Dr. Burzynski who managed to get his method approved by the FDA but it still undergoes tight control and gets banned.

Essiac

Back in 1922, a Canadian nurse named Rene Caisse noticed some scar tissue on the breast of an elderly woman. The woman told her that doctors had diagnosed her with breast cancer years before. However, the woman didn’t want to risk surgery, nor did she have the money for it. Providentially, she had met an old Indian medicine man who told her that he could cure her cancer with an herbal tea. The woman proceeded to tell Caisse about the ingredients in the tea.

About a year later, Caisse was walking beside a retired doctor who pointed to a common weed and stated, “Nurse Caisse, if people would use this weed there would be little or no cancer in the world.” This “weed” (sheep sorrel) was one of the herbs in the medicine man’s formula. The doctor had watched his horse cure itself of cancer by repeatedly grazing in a particular part of the pasture where sheep sorrel grew.

In 1924, Caisse wanted to test the tea on her aunt who had been diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer and was given less than six months to live. Caisse asked the physician, Dr. R. O. Fisher, for permission to try the tea on her aunt, and he consented. Her aunt drank the herbal tea daily for two months and recovered. Amazingly, she lived for 20 more years! Caisse also tested the tea on her mother who had been diagnosed with terminal liver cancer and had been given less than two months to live. Remarkably, her mother lived another 18 years!

What was in the tea? 54% Burdock Root (and seed), 35% Sheep Sorrel (leaf, stem, root and seed), 9% Slippery Elm bark, and 2% Turkey (or Indian) Rhubarb. She named the tea “ESSIAC” (which is Caisse spelled backwards) and it is a decoction, meaning that the herbs are boiled and then steeped for several hours.

Essiac Tea is now used all over the world by cancer patients who want to avoid chemo and radiation.

Bicarbonate

Dr. Tullio Simoncini, an Italian Oncologist found that cancer is not genetic, but is caused by a fungus called Candida Albicans which can be destroyed by sodium bicarbonate.

Mistletoe

Mistletoe has been used for centuries by Celts and others, in modern times it was recommended Steiner as a cure for cancer. It has been used for over 70 years as a cancer cure in the form of a medicine called Iscador.
