Hi Dan,

I'm able to SSH in to the meridian server from here, and from all the servers I was trying to test it from before, so it must have been some kind of smellycom outage, or maybe the router somehow got confused with so many comings and goings to the same places!?

Anyway it means I probably don't need to come in again for now, I'll just chip away here for a bit. Could you let me know if you get this before tomorrow, otherwise I'll give you a call around 8:30am...

Hi Dan, I'm able to SSH in to the meridian server from here, and from all the servers I was trying to test it from before, so it must have been some kind of smellycom outage, or maybe the router somehow got confused with so many comings and goings to the same places!? Hi Dan,

It's good to see you've jumped straight in to using the wiki. Regarding your wiki server, why don't we use the old box at the office in Whitianga? It would be perfect: P3 650Mhz/64MB/20GB. It's only got Win98 running on it and wouldn't be much good for anything else. All it needs is a RAM upgrade to 256MB, Debian installed and you're away!

OK, whatever you think is best. Sounds sensible, just check with Dana first in case he has photos of his prize Marlin fishing on there. --Dan 14:56, 17 Mar 2006 (NZDT)

Great. I would love to de-geekify the Wiki. I object to being called a User. :) --Dan

I've put permissions on Meridian Alliance and Talk:Meridian Alliance as an example of permissions. Its a bit techo at the moment as you have to edit the XML properties article - but there's a new user freindly form on the way :-)

Hi Dan, I just wanted to clarify regarding the box dana gave me - will it be a dedicated server that just sits in a cupboard somewhere and serves wiki pages, or will it be in use as a general workstation as well? Based on your answer I would either prepare it for Aran to set up the XMLWiki on Windows XP, or format the hard drive, install Debian on it and give Nad root access to it so he can install XMLWiki. In that case, I should take off the XP Pro sticker and you can use it elsewhere. --Milan 16:12, 16 Mar 2006 (NZDT)

I'm not really interested in maintaining an xmlwiki instance on a windows box, its not a step in the right direction. --Nad 16:32, 16 Mar 2006 (NZDT)

Looks like it will should be set up with Debian then...

Yip that would be best - if you need that current box for XP I'm sure we can come up with another box for the wiki-server pretty quick, it doesn't need to be much of a spec. --Nad 11:58, 17 Mar 2006 (NZDT)
Use it for the Wiki Empire
P.S not clear how to 'indent' to add to a thread
Use ":" (colon) at start of line to indent (and extra colons indent more), and asterisks at start do bullets, and hashes outline numbered headings.
See also, MediaWiki Markup for a page of syntax examples
And use ~~~ to add your username, or ~~~~ for one with a timestamp (like this → Nad 12:12, 17 Mar 2006 (NZDT))
thanks --Dan

Install notes have been moved to Talk:Meridian/TheMerd --Nad 07:42, 25 Mar 2006 (NZST)

You guys should check out some of those documentaries too, if you've got time they're really good ones. Milan should have a local copy of most of them so you don't need to waste bandwidth. --Nad 13:01, 26 Mar 2006 (NZST)
