  • Installed Ubuntu 8.04 on a WD 20GB HDD, Athlon XP2100, 1.0GB RAM
  • Installing OD server package. Have only needed the UI to date. Needs restart.
  • Wanted to install Flash so let it.
  • Installing 134MB of updates
  • Installing NVIDIA accelerated driver resulted in 320 pixel screen, reverted.
  • Installed OD workstation package


  • Installed Apache Mysql Php
  • Installed Geany
  • Installed Mediawiki
  • Logging in as root because of annoying file save restrict permissions

  1. Boot PC from an Ubuntu CD (8.04), install. Manual partition, ext3, no swap partition.
  2. sudo passwd root
  3. Install restricted drivers (Nvidia)
  4. Install swapfile deb from http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/admin/dphys-swapfile.
  5. Copy any saved debs to /var/cache/apt/archives
  6. Install a new workstation (OD)
