Augmented Reality (AR) refers to the application of superimposing digital content into the physical world.
This is achieved via portable devices with digital imaging (webcams) recognising proxies/avatar images & then "projecting" media (images or video) onto that location.
In layman terms, it's a way of bringing the digital world into the physical.
Examples & applications
Potential applications may include:
- completely removing the need for controller peripherals
- creative marketing
- e-commerce
- augmenting bio/information to facial-recognition (slightly creepy, but still very cool)
