Decentralised finance (DeFi) is a paradigm that started gaining traction after the popularisation of decentralised smart contract networks which were pioneered by Ethereum. These systems allow more complex organisational systems to be implemented such as pegged assets (stable coins), loans, liquidity, prediction markets, derivatives and cross-chain exchanges, all in a completely decentralised and way without relying on any trusted third parties. Some of these mechanism are of particular interest to us here at Organic Design and come in the form of open protocols.

Bancor

The Bancor Protocol (whitepaper) is a fully on-chain liquidity protocol that can be implemented on any smart contract-enabled blockchain such as Ethereum or EOS and soon Cardano. It is an open-source standard for liquidity pools, which can be easily integrated into any application to enable value exchanges.
