Augmented Reality (AR) refers to the application of superimposing digital content into the physical world.

This is achieved via portable devices with digital imaging (webcams) recognising proxies/avatar images & then "projecting" media (images or video) onto that location.

In layman terms, it's a way of bringing the digital world into the physical.

Examples & applications

Potential applications may include:

  • completely removing the need for controller peripherals
  • creative marketing
  • e-commerce
  • augmenting bio/information to facial-recognition (slightly creepy, but still very cool)
