The genesis block was created ten years ago today at 18:15, and the first bitcoin transaction ever, the genesis block reward, was sent!
This first transaction contains the famous message "The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks" which suggests that Satoshi created bitcoin with the purpose of resolving the problems of the current financial mechanism and fiat currency in general.
